P-38 in Solana Beach, California

This was one that Tyler found on the bath data and then we located and identified. The aircraft is upside. Tyler has a lead on yet another P-38 which would make three in the SD area. Note that Lora @marissacharters has a trip planned to visit two of the P-38s in April. This one is about 180 feet deep.

This is the bottom of a gun mount. You can see the gears that would rotate th turret and note the barrels off to the right mid-frame.

The HMS Southwold was one of my favorite dives in Malta.

Deep inside the engine room of the Ursus in Croatia

The Ursus is a deep-ish wreck (200' / 60m) in Vis, Croatia that isn't dived very often. On the day I dove it, it was quite an adventure finding it, getting onto it, and then doing the dive in quite a bit of current. I ventured into the engine room and got a few cool photos. This one shows some busted up pipes.

F8F-1 Bearcat Prop

This one made it to the "semi-finals" round of UPY 2023.

It is a picture of the props of the same Bearcat that I built the photogrammetry model of that won the Wrecks category. The plane is 230 feet deep off of Point Loma, California.

I personally really like this photo and the colors of the props and the one that has started to delaminate.

UB-88 Wreck Photogrammetry Model

This one made it to the "finals" round. Kudos to the UPY judges for giving detailed feedback on how far each image makes it.

It took me about 6 or 7 dives to get the photos to build the model and it includes about 3,000 photos. I think it could have possibly placed if I spent more time working on the angles of what I submitted.

It is a photogrammetry model of the UB88 which is a World War I submarine that sank outside Los Angeles on Jan 3, 1921. Let that "sink" in. Sorry for the pun. :)

It is about 190 feet (57m) deep to the sand. For any technical diver, it is a cornerstone dive in California.

It is honor to win the highly coveted Underwater P

It is honor to win the highly coveted Underwater Photographer of the Year contest in the Wreck category for 2023.

This "photo" is actually a screen capture of a photogrammetry model of a F8F-1 Bearcat which is a relatively rare airplane that is located deep off the coast of Point Loma, California. To date, there have only been two divers on the wreck (myself and Drew Wilson) and the target was first identified by Tyler Stalter and we dove it from the Marissa.

The model is built with about 750 photos which were taken with a Sony a7rIV inside a Nauticam housing with the Nauticam WWL1-B wide angle wet lens and with Keldan video lights.
