F.T. Barney (Lake Huron — 160 ffw)

Background The F.T. Barney was our last dive of the trip. It is a bit shallower than the previous wrecks and is up near Rogers City where we were staying (as opposed to Presque Isle where the other wrecks are). We decided to conduct one long dive on the wreck since Mel and Greg had [...]

Typo (Lake Huron — 190 ffw)

Background The Typo was named by the owners in recognition of the their successful printing and writing careers. The triple-masted 137-foot "canaler" was built in 1872-1873 by the Wolf and Davidson Shipbuilding company in Milwaukee and launched in March of 1873. Canaler ships were designed to fit the width and length of the locks on [...]

Cornelia B. Windiate (Lake Huron — 180 ffw)

Background The Windiate is probably the most popular deep wreck in the Presque Isle area -- and for good reason. The wreck is sitting upright in 180 feet of water and it is in pristine condition and very picturesque. The three masts are still standing, the wheel at the stern is still attached, and the [...]

S.S. Norman (Lake Huron — 210 ffw)

Background The Norman was a large 300 foot long, 40 foot wide bulk freighter that was another victim of a collision in heavy fog -- like so many other wrecks in the area. The Norman was built in 1890 by Globe Iron Works in Cleveland, Ohio and was one of the first propeller-driven steel tankers [...]

Defiance (Lake Huron — 185 ffw)

Background I just returned from a dive trip with Mel Clark to the wrecks of Presque Isle which is near Rogers City, Michigan in the northern part of Lake Huron. I flew into Detroit airport and then drove about 4 hours north to stay in Rogers City for the week. We had mostly good weather [...]

Jellyfish Lake in Palau I went to the iconic #jel Jellyfish Lake in Palau

I went to the iconic #jellyfishlake in Palau on my March 2022 trip and took a bunch of photos. It is a very unique habitat where the jellyfish have no predators so they have lost their ability to sting through evolution. Darwin is hard at work.

Beechcraft H18 Another shot taken with a GoPro d Beechcraft H18

"Touch of Grey" dive site in Kona, Hawaii (Feb 202 "Touch of Grey" dive site in Kona, Hawaii (Feb 2022).

This is probably my favorite dive site in the Kona area. It is relatively far north from the harbor so boats only go there on "extended" dive charters. It has great rock formations and channels and a spot where you can almost always see baby sharks.

This photo was taken with a GoPro 10. The newer GoPro models are pretty impressive.

The wreck is upside and you can see the landing gear and tire sticking straight up into the water.

This particular B-24 is very special and has historical significance since it was the last one produced in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

This B-24 was paid for by war-bonds bought by factory employees and local citizens and the airplane body included signatures of all the employees and a special logo.
